The Little White House Historic Site Full Visitor's Guide

the little white house

A White House state dinner is a diplomatic tool selectively wielded by presidents to highlight cooperation from close U.S. allies. Key features include a pomp-filled welcome ceremony for the visiting head of state, face time with the president and a glitzy, black-tie dinner with hundreds of guests, including titans from the worlds of politics, business and Hollywood. The Harry S. Truman Little White House is the State of Florida’s only presidential site. Each teacher was surprised at their seat by a handmade thank-you note from their students, fellow teachers and school leadership that was organized by their school principal. U.S. public schools continue to face a host of challenges, from teacher shortages due to low pay and job stress to underfunded schools to political fights over what should be taught and how. President Joe Biden made a brief, surprise appearance at the East Room event immediately after he returned from a trip to North Carolina, saying he appreciates everything teachers do. A Proclamation on National Small Business Week, 2024

During his presidency, Harry S Truman spent 175 days in the Truman Little White House in Key West, Florida. This historic site was originally built in 1890 as the naval station’s command headquarters. It was later converted into a winter White House for President Truman and his family.

Last year, we secured the release of Abigail, a 4-year-old who was being held by Hamas.

Locals regarded him "fondly, even reverently" and saw the president as "part friend, part father figure, and, because of the role he played in pulling the South out of the depression, part savior as well." The story of the Little White House, Key West and the US military are
forever linked. In 1823 the residents of Key West requested the US Navy secure the shipping lanes and protect them from pirates. Nearly 2000 brethren of the coast were attacking the ships of the United States, Spain and England as they sailed the Caribbean island or used the Gulf Stream to
sail to Europe. Commodore David Porter was successful and the city of
Key West incorporated in 1828.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt first traveled to Warm Springs, Georgia, in 1924. Two years later he purchased a 1,200-acre resort property there to establish the Warm Springs Foundation, where polio patients could seek treatment. Architect Henry J. Toombs, who built most of the rehabilitation center’s facilities, also constructed two residences for Roosevelt. The first, built in 1926–1927, was where Roosevelt stayed during his earlier visits to Warm Springs, until he sold it to Leighton McCarthy, Canada’s ambassador to the U.S. during World War II. Called the Little White House, it is a single-story, plain Colonial Revival constructed of Georgia pine. Toombs expanded the residence in 1932 with a detached garage/servants’ quarters, a guesthouse in 1933, and the Georgia Wilkins Cottage in 1934, the latter converted to a museum by Toombs in 1959.

This unassuming six-room cottage was a relaxing personal retreat for Franklin D. Roosevelt between 1924 and 1945. Walk through the preserved rooms where FDR stayed during his long stint as President while developing New Deal policies and leading America through World War II. Little White House provides rare, intimate insights into one of the nation’s most influential leaders.

Harry S. Truman

Carried from the room into his bedroom, he died later that same afternoon. George Foster Peabody, a prominent businessman and philanthropist in New York, purchased the property in 1923. Peabody shared the story of a young polio victim’s recovery after bathing in the swimming pools at Warm Springs with his friend, Franklin D. Roosevelt, the young politician paralyzed from the waist down in 1921 from polio. Roosevelt arrived at the resort on October 3, 1924 hoping to find a cure. For the first time in three years, he was able to move his right leg.

The Warm Springs Foundation created what became the first and for many years, the only hospital devoted solely to the treatment of poliomyelitis victims in the world. The organization became the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, the sponsor of the “March of Dimes,” and was instrumental in promoting the development of a cure for polio. Roosevelt returned to use the therapeutic waters at Warm Springs every year, except 1942, from his first visit in 1924 until his death there in 1945.

Florida's Only Presidential Museum

President Truman’s first visit to the Little White House was in 1946. He spent a total of 11 working vacations in Key West during his presidency, and returned 5 more times after his presidency. In 1924, Franklin D. Roosevelt came to Warm Springs seeking therapy for polio in the town’s mineral springs. He built a modest six-room vacation cottage, dubbed the “Little White House,” which became his home away from home for two decades. During his convalescence and presidency, FDR found comfort in the privacy, informality, and warm waters of Warm Springs. On January 1, 1987, it was deeded to the State of Florida and is held in trust as a public museum.

Truman’s support for civil rights was a significant step forward for American society, and his efforts paved the way for the Civil Rights Movement in the following years. In 1944, Harry S. Truman helped introduce the GI Bill, widely regarded as one of the most effective social policy programs in U.S. history. The GI Bill gave millions of soldiers returning from World War II the opportunity to enroll in college or job-training programs. It also helped grant low-interest loans towards the purchase of new homes. Learn more about the current administration, our country’s former presidents, and the official residence. Social media has been full of people quoting the line “You wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me,” and now, Monica Lewinsky has joined in on the trend.

In 1990 almost a million dollars was spent restoring the house to its 1949 appearance. A 501(c)(3) organization is attempting to further the restoration and hold education conferences each Spring on Truman's impact upon today's society. Chocolate Charlotte Russe retro recipe 1967

You can also use a 7-8-inch (18-20 cm) round springform with detachable edges or alternatively a large pastry ring to make a charlotte. You will need the right mold to get good results with this chocolate charlotte recipe. A traditional charlotte mold holds about eight cups - just the right size and shape to give gorgeous results. You should tryto find a non-stick mold which virtually guarantees you the quick release that is needed to make a beautiful charlotte.

Chocolate Charlotte Recipe

Alternatively, you can use any deep mold with high edges, such as a cake mold or mousse cake ring. You mold the dessert in a loaf pan with a fence of split ladyfingers enclosing the velvety chocolate filling. Additional ladyfingers divide the filling into layers, and form the corduroy look of the top. Pipe the white chocolate mousse to the top of the lady finger mold and cover with plastic. In France, a charlotte is traditionally prepared in a charlotte mold or charlotte cake pan. It is more or less a Bundt cake pan, which replicates the shape of ladyfingers.

Remove the bowl from the heat and keep whisking for a further 2 to 3 minutes until the cream cools down. He called this creation the “Parisian charlotte” to differentiate it from the English dessert. Thereafter, Antonin worked in the kitchens of Tsar Alexander and he renamed it “charlotte Russe” which is the other name by which it is known today. Refrigerate the molds and allow the mousse to set up for a couple of hours.

Whipped Cream

This might be a good idea if you have young children, are pregnant, or have anyone with a weakened immune system. That “other” recipe is actually the one I started out making. I read through it several times and thought it sounded great.

Add the melted chocolate and butter to the egg yolks and sugar cream slowly while whisking to combine everything. The mixture will become thick and fudgy, leave it on the side to cool. Dip the outer part of the ladyfinger biscuits and lay them on a tray. Leave the chocolate to harden and make a crust either in the fridge or at room temperature if it’s not too warm.

Prepare the pan with parchment that has had the length of the ladyfingers marked on them. I also added some chocolate-dipped candied orange peels (roughly chopped) in my chocolate charlotte. They add some crunchiness to the charlotte, plus chocolate and orange are like best friends. You can go with or without them, or simply add some orange zest to your chocolate mousse. Charlotte mold is a specially designed pan with slightly flared sides and a fixed or removable hinge to remove Charlotte and other ladyfinger-lined desserts easily.

Its filling is comprised of French fromage blanc and dried fruit.

This impressive chocolate dessert is easier than you think, and guaranteed to go down a treat. Thank you for following me on Pinterest, Facebook, and Instagram. Hashtag #bakinglikeachef so I can see your creations. For ingredients and detailed instructions, refer to the recipe card below. The introduction of the Tupperware Charlotte mold brought a new variation of Charlotte.

My recipes have been featured in the renowned French Chef Simon and Le Journal des Femmes. While biscuits à la cuillère are made with egg whites and sprinkled with icing sugar, boudoir biscuits are made with whole eggs and sprinkled with granulated sugar. Boudoir has a softer texture and a slender shape, distinguishing it from the traditional biscuits à la cuillère. To serve, remove the ring and sprinkle chocolate shavings on top of the mousse.

After at least 4 hours of setting time in the refrigerator, you can share and enjoy the cake. The mousse is very delicious even frozen, so you can eat it like an ice cream cake or freeze the leftovers. In a saucepan, add the water, sugar, and unsweetened cocoa powder, mix everything together, and on high heat, cook for 5 minutes after the boiling point. Remove it from the heat and allow it to cool for later.

Taking a little break from holiday baking, I made this dessert for my sister’s birthday. For some reason, I had it in my head that I wanted to make a charlotte. I’d never made one before, and it just seemed like the thing to make for her day.I flipped through cookbooks and searched online and narrowed it down to two recipes. This recipe that is pictured above in all its delicious glory. The one that nearly turned me off making any kind of desserts ever again. The charlotte recipe may seem a little intimidating at first, but it doesn’t have to be.

In the chocolate charlotte recipe given here, the Bavarian cream has been replaced by a chocolate mousse. If you are using a 20cm cake ring you will need about 20 ladyfinger biscuits. You can make them a little bit shorter if you want them as long as the chocolate mousse. Another option, you can make them much shorter (about 2 thirds) and use a larger for a classical cake form.

Using the whip attachment gently fold the flour into the eggs. Be sure to start at the bottom and come up through the eggs to get the flour off the bottom of the bowl. Get recipes, tips and NYT special offers delivered straight to your inbox. Place cold heavy cream in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment (you can use a hand mixer) and whip the cream until soft peaks (not stiff peaks).

You can make this traditional French dessert for a birthday party, Valentine’s Day, Christmas, or just a simple dinner with friends. Really, as long as you love chocolate, any excuse is valid to bake a chocolate charlotte. To make chocolate mousse, chop dark chocolate with a knife or use a food processor. To prepare Charlotte mold, place an 8-inch (20 cm) cake ring (springform pan or mousse cake mold) on a serving plate or a cake board.

Add another layer of the ladyfinger biscuits dipped into the syrup to the bottom to make a base and pour the half quantity of the chocolate mousse. For the mousse we will make a thick version of a creme anglaise, this will make the chocolate mousse so creamy and rich. In a heat resistant bowl, mix the egg yolks, with the sugar, milk, and the vanilla, you can use vanilla infused sugar ir vanilla extract.

I remember that my mother used to make this fancy chocolate mousse cake with ladyfingers on special occasions. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find her recipe in any of her books or clippings. Just another thing I wish I would have asked her about before she passed. Luckily in today's world, we have the internet. So when I searched for chocolate mousse cake with ladyfingers I found recipes for something called Chocolate Charlotte Cake.

The seats and spaces under them were so small I could not fit my backpack, which I’ve always brought on flights and fit before no problem. The crew were unpleasant and patronizing. It took about half an hour to locate a staff member to open up the locked room where it was being kept. Great flight attendants, good food (in business class, at least), very comfortable.

Also tiresome to have to watch movies on my device by holding up smartphone screen, would have liked to have in seat display. I would fly again the whole experience was great. The only feed back I can give that they don't do that American Airlines does is the crew there is more humorous with boarding and thank their passengers. It makes it more fun to fly with them.

If Kittle wins the MVP next season, I’m sure every NFL player will buy a home gym and move next door to an empty patch of land. Being an offensive player, Kittle isn't going to complain if his team gets an extra 15 yards on top of what was already gained. But there's also a chance he's on the sideline and his teammate is flagged for the illegal tackle. San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle, a hard man to take down on the field, shared his own thoughts regarding the rule, which will result in a 15-yard penalty when enforced. As an offensive player, it will benefit him when it's called, but he does have a big concern.

“So I gave him some information, and I’m pretty sure he gave it to the whole team so everyone could prepare for it. We had a lot of guys on the team building their own gyms, whether it was their basements, or their patios outside, some of us using our garages. With the coronavirus worsening, and the reality setting in that their party would have to be postponed a year (it has been), Kittle’s mind started drifting to what this would mean for his football offseason. In any other draft, Brock Bowers would've been a top 5 pick.

Long-term, the rocky entry into the league didn’t kill that class of quarterbacks—half of those six hit, which is a pretty normal rate. But in the short-term, getting Dalton and Newton a ton of work in camp was very important to having them ready to play, and both played really well as rookies, while Gabbert and Ponder struggled. First, Arians’s belief is that Brady can make every throw necessary to play in his offense, even if that offense has long skewed towards big, downfield-throwing quarterbacks, which isn’t really what Brady is. The plan has been to streamline the scheme to what Brady likes. And the belief is that there’ll be elements that’ll be good for him—one example would be receivers running through zones, rather than sitting down on them, which could turn short throws from 12 into big plays. Over time, what was once a temporary fix will now become a fixture.

De Laura looked like an equally good prospect, winning a state title as a junior and the player of the year as a senior. Second, really, there was no importing the Patriot offense, as Brady was running it, anywhere else. “It was actually funny, right after I ordered it, one of my strength coaches asked me what I was doing to get all my stuff, because I told him I was getting a whole gym,” Kittle said.

Our Taproom Bar, brought to the Inn in the 1950s by a former owner, was originally installed in the Fanny Brite pub in England. It was sent as a gift from a famous actress who frequented the Kittle House across the Atlantic, and installed in an (in)famous speakeasy in Manhattan in the 1920s. Once the speakeasy was raided by police during Prohibition, it was kept in storage for decades before a former owner purchased it at auction, and installed it in our Tap Room. Now, it proudly displays of our Spirits and welcomes our guests into the cozy, wood-paneled tap room.

If it’s not, then that’s fine too, but I’d say this is a year when you’d have to be willing to carry out an actual redshirt (which, as we said, rarely happens with first-round quarterbacks anymore). “Losing the Super Bowl, it’s awful, I don’t wish that on anyone, unless I’m playing them, but I think it definitely was a teaching moment,” Kittle said. “Guys are definitely very hungry, we want to go back and win that one. Guys are definitely holding themselves accountable. Our coaches have done a great job staying in touch with guys, all our strength coaches, our nutritionists, our dietician, our trainers reach out to all the guys all the time to make sure they have everything they need. That’s where the idea of getting an edge comes in again for Kittle, as it did in the construction of the home gym.

Although Las Vegas selected Mayer with a second-round pick in 2023, that didn't stop the front office from adding one of the most talented players in the 2024 draft. Head coach Antonio Pierce will likely find ways to utilize both tight ends in 12 personnel in order to give each of them significant playing time. The takeaway, then, to me would be that the Bengals, Dolphins, and Chargers have to enter camp with an idea of whether or not Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert are going to play. If the expectation is that they will, then good—get them in with the first team early and get them a lot of work.

How these NFL stars broke the hearts of Utah college football coaches

How quarterback competitions may need to happen fast in the summer. And that could affect whether or not rookies play at the position—a topic we broached with Hue Jackson, who was Raiders head coach during through the 2011 lockout, on the podcast this week. I broached it with him because I felt like that summer would be the one most applicable to what’s ahead now, and how rookie QBs were handled that year can be instructive in 2020. And because this was the plan, the Kittles were closely keeping an eye on what was happening over there through most of February. This, to be sure, is a pretty critical few months for the two-time All-Pro and the reigning NFC champions. He spends his offseasons in a Nashville house with his family.

“I’m sure there were some little changes, but for the most part, it was the vernacular he was used to. I think what we’ll see here [in Tampa] is Bruce’s offense with a Brady influence. But for now, Kittle’s clearly doing what he can on what’s a pretty different, but still level, playing field. He’s not avoiding it, like some have in the past, in the wake of a loss like that. But that doesn’t mean it’s been easy on him to relive the Niners’ fourth quarter lead melting away. Brock Bowers has been selected by the Las Vegas Raiders with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

I like the former going old school with the numbers on the jersey. On the latter, it really was just a switch to their color rush uniforms, which are sort of a version of what they were already wearing—though I’d say the road look is a slight improvement over the old ones. From there, he picked out a lat pulldown machine that also had the pulley for close-grip rows, and a squat rack, and both of those occupy corners of the space.

How Much Do Home Generators Cost and Are They Worth It?

house generator cost

Portable gasoline generators cost $500 to $2,500 for a 3 to 10 kW unit. Gasoline generators have lower upfront costs and can power essential appliances during brief outages. However, they are noisy and require storage space for the generator and gas, which has a shorter shelf-life than other fuels.

Generator installation costs

Other customers cite frustration with the short warranty period (one year). Like the Briggs & Stratton model, this generator is Wi-Fi-enabled and can be monitored from your phone. That test helps provide some peace of mind that your generator will turn on in an emergency.

When in need of temporary power for medical, heating, cooling or electrical reasons, Angi’s electricians can help. A whole house generator provides up to a 150% return on investment and can increase the overall value of your home by 5% according to Consumer Reports and Remodeling magazine. The Silverado EV is equipped with bidirectional charging capability from the factory. GM has been teasing its new home energy products for months, including a home EV charger and vehicle-to-home (V2H) kit that enables a home to pull energy from an EV battery in the event of a blackout. That equipment is now available to customers but only those who live in California, Florida, Texas, Michigan, and New York.

Solar Installer Guides

The demand for generators for whole-house use varies based on weather conditions, market, and region. Homeowners will want to note the size of their house and electrical panel so they don’t buy more power than is necessary. It allows you to track the generator’s fuel level and power output, so you always know how much power you have available.

Support

You should consider the money spent on professional installation as insurance for you and your family’s wellbeing. Generator installation could be a good time for you to make other related improvements to your home. However, it’s a better deal to get it done while installing the generator instead of creating separate projects later on. Generally, a permanent whole house generator unit costs $500 to $3,000 to install.

Another potentially helpful indicator for some homeowners, low oil protection options account for 5% of the total best whole house generators ranking. For the comfort of the homeowner, 10% of the total ranking went to noise level (dbA). Each generator’s noise level was evaluated and from there was scored based on the loudness (or softness) of its average level. The best-known and most-established whole house generator manufacturer is Generac. The $5,800 model is sufficient to keep a 5,000 square foot home running. Generac generators also come and exceptional warranties.Besides Generac, Craftsman, Kholer, and Briggs & Stratton are also popular brands with credible warranties.

These units draw power either from the home’s panel or from a solar source to be stored until it is needed. These units can cost $10,000 to $25,000, plus an additional $800 to $1,500 for installation. Power outages are inconvenient no matter how brief they are, but they can be expensive or even dangerous in some circumstances, especially if the outage is prolonged. According to Angi and HomeAdvisor, the typical cost of a whole-home generator is $1,524 to $8,658, with homeowners paying around $5,090 on average. Even though it’s one of the smallest generators on this list, this Briggs & Stratton model produces 12,000 running watts.

Offering a best-in-class 14,000 watts, the Champion aXis goes unmatched on this list for the amount of power it outputs to your home. This generator is also the quietest of our top five with noise measured at only 62 dbA. As the leading home generator brand, Generac’s Guardian series generators, once again, set them apart from competition.

The Best Portable Generators for Go-Anywhere Power, Tested

It could work for you if you want a dual-fuel portable generator at a more affordable price. If you don’t need all the bells and whistles that come with some of the other standby generators on this list, this little 12.5-kW generator might be a good choice. It’s an affordable model built to withstand sub-zero temperatures and heavy rains. The Guardian 24kW Standby Generator is one of the most powerful air-cooled generators on the market. Air-cooled generators take in cold air from the atmosphere to prevent overheating, making them more durable than other models.

The company has said that all of its EV will come with bidirectional charging as standard starting in 2026. A “properly equipped home” and “proper grid interconnection” may also be required, GM says. The best generator manufacturers produce a wide range of products, so it can be tricky to pick the right model. Finding the best generator for your home is just a matter of knowing what you’re looking for. This article will review seven of the most popular whole-house generators on the market this year.

Check out our generator buying guide for more details on our intensive testing program. That depends on how often you lose power; on how quickly your power company takes to restore it; and, to a lesser degree, on your tolerance for living without power. If you lose power only occasionally, a portable generator is both less expensive and less convenient. With winter showing off its worst weather, power outages might be close behind.

Homeowners will also need to make note of local requirements for gas connections. Additionally, generators are large and heavy and must sit on a concrete pad. They require advanced electrical work and possibly fuel line installation. Permits must be obtained before work can start, and the power provider will need to be notified. Costing between $3,000 and $20,000, diesel generators are usually larger machines that can power a whole house. Exceptionally efficient, diesel-powered generators are more cost-effective the larger they get.

The ATS also protects the city’s electrical grid from being back-fed power by your generator. Home generators with less than a 5,000-watt output (uncommon) and portable generators usually have a manual transfer switch which is much less convenient. Before buying any generator, you should determine the power requirements of your home and your most essential large electric appliances. Refrigerators, air conditioning, sump or well pumps, medical devices, electric water heaters and portable space heaters will likely have the highest power draw and be most essential during power outages.

Each company was evaluated based on reviews over several public platforms and scored accordingly. Typically, you can also monitor your generator through an app or other connection, though extra equipment may be required at installation. The advantages of propane include its affordability and its “cleaner” burn, meaning it leaves little to no contamination.

Best Whole House Generators Of April 2024

The Briggs & Stratton 12,000 Watt Generator packs quite the punch for a narrow footprint unit and ships at a solid price. Though one of the smallest generators on our best-of list, this product delivers a solid 12,000 watts and comes in as one of the best ranked generators by customer reviews. In order to take advantage of those benefits, it’s crucial you get the right generator for your unique situation and application. Check out our list of the best whole house generators to see which model would be the best for you to keep your home running even without a connection to the grid. Also, some models are more prone to having problems and have a shorter lifespan. Therefore, make sure you take maintenance and repair costs into consideration when choosing your home generator.

How Much Does Solar Panel Cleaning Cost?

You can also use mobile monitoring to schedule tests and track the generator’s status. You'll also want to budget between $500 to $3,000 per year ($90 to $200 per day of use) to run a 15- to 20-kilowatt whole-house generator. But not all fuels are alike, and depending on the brand and fuel you choose, you might find yourself spending far more than you expected in fuel costs. Portable generators should not be set-up in an indoor space, nor should they be placed near air conditioners or open windows, as the carbon monoxide exhaust can be deadly in enclosed spaces.

Briggs & Stratton PowerProtect™ 10kW Standby Generator, Model 040684

However, frequent use may significantly reduce your generator’s lifespan. Make sure to conduct regular maintenance and service so your generator lasts as long as it can. If you bought from an established manufacturer, like Generac, then you may qualify for an annual service contract at a much lower price.

The Best Inverter Generators for Backup Power Almost Anywhere, Tested

In fact, it's such a good idea everyone would have one if the home generator cost weren't so high. A 200-amp ATS is also known as a service disconnect transfer switch and can power the entire electrical needs of a home with 200-amp service. With the generator placed immediately outside of your home, you should also consider the noise level, measured in decibels (dB). Most generators on our list average 60 to 70 dBs, for reference, a vacuum cleaner is typically approximately 70 to 80 dBs. If you need a ton of power at a surprisingly affordable cost, look no further than the Generac Air-Cooled Standby Generator.

What size generator is needed to run a whole house?

Assess your essential appliances and systems that need backup power during outages. This evaluation will help you determine the generator’s capacity that suits your needs without overspending. Whole house generators come in various sizes and capacities, each with a corresponding price range. Smaller generators that power essential circuits will typically be more budget-friendly than larger units that supply power to the entire house.

Whole-House Generator Installation: DIY vs. Hiring a Professional

Extreme weather conditions like hurricanes, blizzards, heavy rain, and intense heat can tax the power grid. Even areas that normally have placid weather may find their electric transmission lines going down more frequently due to poor weather. The labor costs to install a whole house generator range from $2,375 to $6,500, for an average cost of $4,440. Generac generators usually fall at the higher end of the cost spectrum, but you can find a variety of models at different price points. It’s always a good idea to get your generator inspected at least twice per year, ideally before the seasons when you most often lose power.

house generator cost

Westinghouse is one of the most trusted names in the generator business. This dual-fuel model has a 6.6-gallon fuel tank that can be filled with gas or propane and produces 9,500 running watts. Because of its portability and multiple output options, this is a versatile generator that can be used for work, camping, construction, emergency power and more. In some extreme cases, you may even be able to help provide power to neighbors. Generators burning natural gas can be directly tied to the home’s natural gas line, allowing practically limitless fuel without having to worry about running out. The disadvantages of natural gas are that it’s less energy-efficient than propane and will therefore produce less power and that the generator remains dependent on the gas grid for backup power.

"The cost of running the machine, assuming the fuel is natural gas piped to your home, can be significant," Whaley said. "But in the current market, with natural gas hovering at or below three dollars per MMBtu (metric million British thermal unit), you'd have to have an extended outage for that cost to become significant." Consider the costs of a home generator, understand the installation process, and know what to expect from this backup power source. Solar powered whole house generators maximized to their full potential may cost nothing to operate. The cost to install a generator typically ranges from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the size of the generator.

This decides if you need a whole house generator or opt for something more affordable. Like all utility-related investments, you should always keep in mind that you are shooting for the long run. What are the long-term benefits, savings, and purposes of a whole house generator? That’s why we will start by looking at if a whole house generator is worth your money. Always run a gasoline generator outdoors at least 20 feet from the home to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Natural gas is cheaper than diesel or propane, but relies on pipelines that may be shut off or damaged during severe storms. Installing a transfer switch for a whole house generator costs $2,000. The cost range for installing a transfer switch starts at $1,435 and ranges up to $2,565. The cost range of liquid propane generators is from $1,740 to $20,800. Partial generators run from $2,000 to $6,300, and most whole-house generators cost between $5,000 and $18,000.

On average, a 21 kW natural gas generator costs about $90 per day to run, while propane and diesel units of the same size cost $220 and $175 per day, respectively. Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas: Overview and Things to Do

wonder of the sea cruise ship

Women lean toward cocktail dresses or stylish pants outfits, though you'll see some floor-length gowns. Men wear suits or sports coats or simply button-down shirts with nice slacks. People certainly get away with jeans if they're a dark color and paired with a jacket or dressy top. You'll find North American-style 110-volt outlets and European-style 220-volt outlets in cabins, along with USB ports, in all cabins. Passengers can pay extra for laundry, pressing and dry cleaning services.

Dining

The Royal Caribbean Wonder of the Seas has a total of 5 pools and 4 hot tubs. That means Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite and Barqs Root Beer, although the selection can vary by ship. Most Royal Caribbean ships also have Coke Freestyle machines where you can make 100 different flavor combinations. On board is also a Boardwalk, designed on the Coney Island attraction and is lined with restaurants serving up Italian, French and German cuisine, along with US staples such as hotdogs and pizzas.

But within those categories are a wide array of room choices not normally found on most cruise ships. Wonder of the Seas is a cruise ship that appeals to active families, couples and friend groups. While most of the fun activities on board are included in the fare, you will pay extra if you want to sample many of the restaurants on board. In addition to multiple pools and hot tubs, you'll find a splash playground for kids (plus a mini splash area for tykes in diapers) and three waterslides. Adults can bask in pools and hot tubs at the indoor 16-plus solarium. Every large cruise ship suffers from the problem of overcrowded pools, but even three pools couldn't handle the sea-day crowds on Wonder.

Port Canaveral, Florida

It definitely felt more like a luxury hotel than a standard Royal Caribbean cruise cabin, but to be honest, I found the decor a bit bland. Our room had two twin beds, but those can be pushed together into a queen for couples. We each had our own nightstand with drawers and bedside lights, as well as U.S. and European outlets and USB ports by the bed. The layout works better with the beds together; my daughter's pillows were blocking her outlets, should she have wanted to use them.

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT

Luckily, the team also expected that something like this would happen, and there was plenty of staff on hand to help people as soon as possible. I was in the middle of the line and had been waiting for about 20 minutes when a staff member approached me and offered her assistance. (Always expect a bit of chaos on boarding day, she told me.) After that, the hard part was over, and I was finally able to put my luggage down. When we boarded, they asked everyone to report to their muster station, where each passenger's assigned lifeboat is located. The ship is huge, so finding my way around initially was super challenging, and almost everyone on board was confused about where to go. Luckily, the staff was super helpful in pointing everyone in the right direction.

The bar is partially covered by a mosaic canopy, which lights up at night in a kaleidoscope of color. The Suite Neighborhood offers an exclusive experience for guests looking to enhance their cruise experience, and can be a selling point for those deciding between booking a suite or not. The neighborhoods are designed to space out guests and provide a diverse experience throughout the ship, with each neighborhood offering different amenities, activities, and dining. She is currently the largest cruise ship in the world, taking the title from her sister ship Symphony of the Seas. At 1,188 feet long, 210 feet wide, and with a gross tonnage of 236,857, Wonder of the Seas is a massive vessel.

Head on down to Playmakers, where your favorite beer is on tap and the pub fare is top notch. Whether you cruise multiple times per year or you're new to cruising, the goal of Royal Caribbean Blog is for it to be a useful resource for keeping up to date with what's new and exciting with Royal Caribbean. It looks like there's a space for it near Adventure Ocean, but the venue is not open. Royal Caribbean has not commented on what the escape room will entail, nor when it might open. The cost of a Wonder of the Seas cruise begins as little as $800 per person and goes up to $1,500 per person. Since November 2022, Wonder of the Seas offers year-round sailings from Port Canaveral.

Though predominantly North American, expect a smattering of passengers from the UK, South America, Europe and Australia to be onboard as well. Beyond the secret entrance, there’s a hangout spot where it’s always game on with the latest consoles. Plus music to jam out to, movies, and plenty of comfortable places to kick back with new friends. Just outside is our most maxed-out patio yet, with lawn games, a juice bar serving up tastebud tempting mocktails and ice cream floats, and for the first time ever, a whirlpool to chill beneath the sun or stars.

Whichever of these four categories that you choose, though, you can be assured of updated, modern, fresh interiors like you definitely won’t find on older cruise ships. Wonder OTS is also the third Oasis-class liner with robot bartenders serving drinks at the Bionic Bar (introduced in 2014 on Quantum OTS).

Plus, the proximity of the Suite Lounge to our suite meant that we could easily pop over for a drink or snack whenever we wanted. My 8-year-old even ventured over there on her own to pick up some breakfast one morning, and the staff was kind and helpful to her. There’s also a mini golf course, Laser Tag game area, video game arcade, outdoor movie theatre, luxury spa and state-of-the-art gym. If that doesn’t appeal, there’s the Rising Tide Bar, which has a moving platform where guests’s seats move up and down between the Promenade on Deck Five to Central Park on Deck Eight and providing great views.

This open-air neighborhood brings a carnival atmosphere with its carousel, hot dog vendor, candy store, sports bar and arcade, and Johnny Rockets outpost. The main attraction is the AquaTheater, which is flanked by two rock climbing walls and the exit of the Ultimate Abyss slide. Royal Caribbean's interior mall area features shops, bars and food outlets, and is encircled by an outdoor running track. Don't miss the kitschy Bionic Bar, where the bartenders are robots, or the Rising Tide Bar, which travels elevator-style between the Royal Promenade and Central Park above. Thrill-seeking passengers can enjoy the surf pool which generates waves 12 ft high, a 25m-long, (82 ft) ten-deck-high zip line and two rock climbing walls.

Launch from the Space Coast to our private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay and explore the gems of the Caribbean. Unlike previous interior staterooms, you can find interior staterooms aboard Wonder of the Seas that actually include sitting areas, which is a nice change. The ocean-view staterooms, of course, have that big, bed-side window, while the balcony staterooms feature well-furnished outdoor spaces and floor-to-ceiling windows.
